Joe Burrow helped the Cincinnati Bengals open the season with a thrilling 33-27 victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The quarterback delivered two touchdown passes, but questions about his health have quickly overshadowed that win.
Burrow revealed during the week that he is dealing with back tightness. That revelation raised concerns about his readiness, especially with Cincinnati preparing to face the Houston Texans in Week 2.
Those concerns grew even further when the Bengals officially listed Joe Burrow as questionable for Sunday’s matchup. NFL insider Ian Rapoport has since indicated that Burrow is expected to play, but his comments still left one major question unanswered.
“It sounded like he was as close to 100% as you could ask, maybe not quite there. But it's not a great thing. He's a rotational athlete, like definitely something to keep watching. He's going to play, but how close to 100% is he going to be?... We'll see if he's actually 100%, and hopefully he is.”
That uncertainty matters against Houston. The Texans will want to put pressure on Burrow, and any limitation could affect how aggressively Cincinnati attacks downfield.
Burrow has already dealt with significant injury concerns during his career. Now, the Bengals must hope their quarterback can handle the physical demands of another NFL game.
Emmanuel Acho hones in on Joe Burrow and his Health Concerns
Emmanuel Acho previously delivered a brutal assessment of Joe Burrow’s latest injury update. While calling him one of football’s most talented quarterbacks, Acho questioned why he was already dealing with back tightness.
Acho also argued that Burrow’s situation deserves attention because the quarterback is playing through another physical concern. His comments added to the growing discussion surrounding Burrow’s durability.
Now, the Bengals will need Burrow to prove he can perform at his best against Houston. He appears set to play, but whether he can operate at 100% remains the biggest question heading into Week 2.
