The Cincinnati Bengals are entering the 2026 NFL season with massive pressure on their shoulders. After missing the playoffs for three straight years, many fans were shocked that the team decided to keep Zac Taylor as head coach. Now more pressure comes up.
Reports from CBS Sports analyst Tyler Sullivan suggest that if the 2026 season Bengals have a bad opening month, this could force the front office to make a coaching change.
“One or more pieces of the Burrow-Chase-Higgins trio miss extended time yet again, dramatically altering expectations for the season," said the analyst about the worst-case scenario for the Bengals.
According to Sullivan, given the recent years' track record, Burrow and wide receivers Ja'Marr Chase or Tee Higgins can suffer injuries and be sidelined for a significant portion of the season. That will put Taylor on notice.
"While there are new faces on defense, it’s the same result for Cincinnati on that side of the ball, leading to the Bengals missing the playoffs for the fourth straight year,” Sullivan added. “That becomes the straw that breaks the camel’s back and results in Zac Taylor being fired.”

According to reports from Glenn Kaplan of Sportsnaut.com, there is simply no way Taylor survives a fourth consecutive year without a postseason appearance. If things go south, Cincinnati will be looking for a new leader.
The stakes are higher than ever now, especially since every other team in the AFC North has hired a brand-new head coach this year.
The biggest threat to their season is the health of star quarterback Burrow. Last season, Burrow suffered a turf toe and ligament injury and was sidelined for nine games. In 2024, he missed seven games after a right wrist injury. So, the Bengals cannot afford any bad luck this season.
Taylor, however, is keeping all the noise aside.
Zac Taylor has full faith in Joe Burrow and the Bengals for the 2026 season
Taylor has been showing full faith in his star quarterback. On June 17, Burrow said this year's Bengals team reminds him of his famous, championship-winning LSU college team. The head coach too is showing confidence.
"We've gotten everything we want to get done," Taylor said in his post-minicamp press conference as reported by the Dayton Daily News. "I thought the guys did a great job getting the work in off the field since really late April when we started meeting and lifting, and then all the field work we've done in May and June. We accomplished everything we set out to accomplish.”
Things are running smoothly for the Bengals. They are keeping their main star players and coaches together, while also adding strong new talent to the defense.
Unlike last year, no players are holding out or missing practices, which has kept the team focused.
Taylor added that the team is locked in, everyone showed up to do their jobs, and they are officially ready for the next step. This has also factored in cutting their mandatory minicamp short.
Now what remains to be seen is if the team can justify Taylor’s faith in them. What is your opinion on this? Let us know in the comments.
