Cincinnati Bengals head coach Zac Taylor decided to cut the team's mandatory minicamp short this month. The players were supposed to practice on the field last Wednesday and Thursday before taking a break until training camp.

Taylor canceled those practices and only held meetings on Wednesday morning. According to DaytonDailyNews.com, Taylor explained that the team had already completed all of its goals for the spring.

“We’ve gotten everything we want to get done,” Taylor said. “We got all the installs in. I thought the guys did a great job getting the work in off the field since really late April when we started meeting and lifting, and then all the field work we’ve done in May and June. We accomplished everything we set out to accomplish.”

Reports state that he felt confident because of how much they achieved during their meetings and on-field workouts over the last few months.  He also gave a lot of credit to his coaching staff for managing their time so well.

“I thought the coaches have utilized every minute we’re on the field. I thought they did a great job with the practice plans and the reps, so I just felt like we were in a good space and ended on a high note. Let these guys come back in late July,” Taylor added.

Taylor's decision sent a clear message about where he believes the Bengals stand entering training camp. Rather than squeezing in additional practice days, he showed confidence that the roster and coaching staff had already laid the groundwork needed for the summer.

The team spent a lot of time on early-stage workouts this year. Reports state that the teams do not do heavy, physical team practices during this part of the summer anyway. Taylor felt they had done enough.

The Reason Cincinnati Felt Comfortable Cutting Minicamp Short

The Cincinnati Bengals surprised everyone by ending minicamp early, just like the 49ers and Rams did. Some critics think a team that missed the playoffs for three years needs all the practice it can get. However, this decision could be a smart move.

The Bengals already have a proven, veteran offense led by quarterback Joe Burrow and star receivers Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins, according to Keegan Nickoson of Round Table Sports.

Because these players already know the playbook and their offensive line is returning, they do not need extra basic practices. Head coach Zac Taylor is choosing rest over extra work to keep everyone healthy.

This choice shows how much the franchise has changed. The Bengals used to be very cautious, but now they are spending big money and draft picks to win immediately.

Burrow is also acting differently. Instead of his usual quiet style, he is being a loud, confident leader. He is openly predicting a Super Bowl win and comparing this team to his famous, championship-winning LSU squad.

For Taylor, the decision came down to preparation rather than practice volume. By ending minicamp early, he signaled confidence that the Bengals had already accomplished what they needed before training camp began.
