When Ja'Marr Chase Exploded at Bengals Fans for Turning on Joe Burrow

Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Ja'marr Chase (1) gets to his feet after catching a go-ahead touchdown in the fourth quarter of the NFL Week 18 game between the Cincinnati Bengals and the Cleveland Browns at Paycor Stadium in Downtown Cincinnati on Sunday, Jan. 4, 2026. The Browns kicked a last second field goal to win 20-18.

The 2025 season slipped away in the most ugly way possible for the Cincinnati Bengals. During Week 15, the Bengals lost 24-0 to the Baltimore Ravens at Paycor Stadium. The brutal loss dropped Cincinnati’s record to a painful 4–10. With only three games left on the schedule. This loss meant the team was eliminated from the playoffs.

As the game got out of hand, the frustration inside the stadium boiled over. Shivering fans turned their anger toward franchise quarterback Joe Burrow, heckling him loudly. However, defending his quarterback, Chase turned around on the sidelines and directly addressed the angry crowd.

"If you don’t like it you can go the f*** home.”

One of the major reasons for the fans' anger was that Paycor Stadium was experiencing one of its coldest game days ever. Fans were already furious because the organization had failed to clear the snow and ice from the seats. On top of that, seeing Burrow struggle on the field, throwing two costly interceptions, just added more to it.

Burrow has been the savior of the franchise, and Chase wasn't going to let him take all the heat alone. Still, Burrow didn’t hide from his poor performance after the game. He took full responsibility for the shutout, showing zero interest in making excuses.

“I think this is one of the worst games that I’ve played," Burrow admitted to reporters postgame. "There is not a quarterback in the league that would have won with the way I played today.”

This is exactly the kind of situation the Bengals are trying to avoid this season. With a strong roster, Burrow seems to be confident with what he is seeing. The team has made additions with great talent throughout its roster, while Chase is involved with his own personal training.

Chase Chase Gives His Clarification On Missing Out On 2026 OTAs

Ja’Marr Chase is skipping the Bengals’ voluntary OTAs this year, but unlike his contract holdout in 2024, there is zero drama behind his absence. Speaking at his weekend youth football camp at Sycamore High School, the star wideout reassured fans that his time away is being utilised positively.

“At the end of the day, I’m not doing anything wrong. I make sure I talk back with the team and give them information, so I do a good job with that right now.” Chase said.

This independent routine is a shift toward a personalized training approach often utilized by cornerstone NFL veterans. In fact, his receiving partner, Tee Higgins, has adopted a similar off-site plan.

According to WLWT’s Charlie Clifford, Chase is expected to train solo until Cincinnati’s mandatory minicamp kicks off on June 16.
