The Cincinnati Bengals have lost consecutive games, exposing defensive problems that demand attention. As a result, the team needs a response heading into Week 5.
Missed tackles have contributed to Cincinnati's struggles, allowing opponents to extend plays. And so, the defense must execute better against the Miami Dolphins.
Speaking to Fox 19, Bengals safety Jordan Battle acknowledged the scrutiny and said the team had no problem answering questions about its sub-par performances:
“You guys gonna ask the questions and that's fine with us. We signed up for this; we know what it comes with, so we have no problems answering those questions. Just got to go out there and be better on the field, and you know we make tackles, and we can avoid those questions, so that's the main thing.”
Battle's message was straightforward: Cincinnati must improve on the field to silence its critics. Ultimately, better tackling would be a meaningful first step.
Bengals' defensive problems persist as they prepare for Week 5 clash
Cincinnati entered Week 5 at 2-2 after losses to the Pittsburgh Steelers and Jacksonville Jaguars. In particular, the Bengals' 22-17 defeat to Jacksonville highlighted their defensive concerns.
A missed tackle on third-and-18 allowed tight end Brenton Strange to move the chains. Consequently, that play highlighted the cost of poor tackling in crucial situations.
Against Miami, the Bengals must clean up those mistakes, or their defensive struggles could continue to overshadow the team's efforts.
