Since 2022, Ted Karras has been one of the most consistent acquisitions of the Zac Taylor era, missing just one regular-season start. Now, entering his final contract year, the center appears set for a potential final season with the Bengals.

The veteran center Ted Karras will stay with Cincinnati through the 2026 season after his one-year extension back in June 2024. That signals the end of an era with developmental prospect Connor Lew in the wings.

"Considering Karras is entering a contract year, and Connor Lew, drafted in 2026, is now on the roster, it’s possible that the end of the Karras era will come when the 2026 season comes to a close," Jason Garrison of Cincy Jungle wrote on August 1.

It's a major hit not just for the Bengals but also for Joe Burrow, who found a consistent partner in Karras despite issues at guard positions on both sides of the offensive line over the years, according to Jason Garrison of Cincy Jungle.

Moreover, the 2nd-ranked center in True Pass Sets grade, Karras logged 1,110 offensive snaps and allowed just one sack all year.

He identifies defensive fronts and helps Burrow maintain an aggressive offense.

Even as the team captain, Karras's influence is hard to replicate. “I love him. He’s probably the most competitive guy I’ve ever been against in practice,” Dexter Lawrence, the Bengals' new defensive tackle, said after a recent practice session.

That competitive edge will be critical if the Bengals are to make a deep playoff run.

If this is indeed Karras's last ride, he'd like to end on a strong note, pushing for the Super Bowl. Cincinnati has assembled just the roster for that.

For the first time in Burrow's career, the Bengals will enter with the same core five offensive linemen: Orlando Brown Jr., Amarius Mims, Dylan Fairchild, Dalton Risner, and, of course, Ted Karras.

This continuity will not only provide familiarity on the field, but also ensure better protection and a deeper postseason run.

While Burrow is famous for reading defenses pre-snap, it's ultimately up to the O-line to protect the QB and open holes in the running game.

This year's offensive roster has everything it needs to succeed: experience, skill, and on-field chemistry. In fact, it ranks 5th in the NFL in pass blocking grade (per PFF).

Moreover, the Bengals have also addressed their biggest weakness heading into the 2026 campaign: defense.
