The Pittsburgh Steelers have their Super Bowl intentions clear when they brought in Aaron Rodgers. The team prioritized the four-time MVP's elite ceiling over a transition to a new starting quarterback.

However, there’s much more work that needs to be put into it. The Future Hall of Famer must rapidly get familiar with the unfamiliar targets, including newly acquired WR Michael Pittman Jr. and incoming rookie Germie Bernard.

The quarterback and his new group of receivers are having some early trouble working together. Ray Fittipaldo, a reporter who covers the team for the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, discussed this on The PM Team with Poni & Mueller radio show on Thursday.

"I'm just going to be very generic with you, and I will just say Aaron Rodgers and his receivers are still working to get on the same page," Fittipaldo said

This slower developmental curve holds significant weight given Rodgers' demanding leadership style. Rodgers is known to be very strict. He demands immediate precision.

If a receiver makes mistakes, Rodgers is known to stop throwing to them entirely. We saw this happen in 2025, when young receiver Roman Wilson barely got to play after he couldn't build trust with Rodgers.

If new players like Pittman or Bernard can't get on the same page with him, the Steelers' offense will be in serious trouble.

The good news is that Rodgers signed his contract early so he could attend spring workouts (OTAs). Even though the passing game is still struggling to click right now, being there early gives Rodgers and his new receivers plenty of time to fix their mistakes before the actual season begins.

Why is Aaron Rodgers Still Elite Among the Steelers?

At 42 years old, quarterback Aaron Rodgers changed his mind about retiring. He has decided to come back to play one more football season. His arm is still strong, and his mind is still sharp.

Last year was his first season with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Even though his team had a lot of injuries, Rodgers did a great job. He scored 25 touchdowns, threw only eight interceptions, and led the team to a 10-6 record. Thanks to his great play, the Steelers won their division title for the first time in five years.

This year, the team looks much better on paper because management added great players to help Rodgers. They fixed the offensive line to give him better protection. They also traded for a great wide receiver, Michael Pittman Jr., and signed a top running back named Rico Dowdle to run the ball.

With these new weapons and an improved defense, the Steelers are in a much better position to win games.

Rodgers is also here to help the team’s future. Working alongside coach Mike McCarthy, Rodgers will mentor two young quarterbacks, Will Howard and Drew Allar. Under his mentorship, they will learn how to play and think like a champion.

Do you think Rodgers would have a great final season?
