NFL fans don't usually agree on much online, but the league's Fourth of July post briefly changed that. Instead of debating rival teams, supporters from across the NFL filled the comments with patriotic messages celebrating America's 250th anniversary.
The NFL marked Independence Day with a simple message on X as part of its America250 partnership, an initiative recognizing the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence.
"Happy Fourth of July! #America250," the NFL's official X account posted, on July 4, 2026.
This message put a spotlight on the league's ongoing partnership with America250. This is the official nonpartisan congressional organization leading the country's 250-year milestone.
The big celebration of America's independence actually started near the end of the 2025 season, right during Week 18.
To celebrate, they painted special designs on the fields and used official game balls that had a special 250th anniversary logo stamped on them.
"The story of the NFL reflects the story of America," NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell explicitly highlighted during the launch, as per america250.org.
NFL fans are normally not friendly with each other under X posts. Each has its own team to defend on social media. But that wasn't the case under the NFL's 250th Independence post.
NFL fans unite under the Red, White, and Blue
The online community responded to the same NFL's X post with patriotism and didn't care about rivalries much.
"Rare W post," one fan commented.
The comment showed that the fans were happy about the NFL post, which displayed the patriotic emotion perfectly.
"Here's to celebrating our nation's history and looking ahead to America 250," an X user shared, leaning into the historical importance of the day.
"Nothing beats America’s birthday at a packed stadium with the flyover! Let’s go Pats & happy 4th to the greatest country on Earth," a Patriots fan commented with patriotism. "Who else is grilling and watching fireworks tonight? #America250#NFL"
The New England Patriots almost had the perfect year after they reached the Super Bowl last season, even though they lost.
"250 years of spark... and zero signs of slowing down," a fan wrote in a celebratory mood. This enthusiasm matches the festive atmosphere across the country.
Some fans, though, still found a way to brag about their favorite team.
"Wow. Happy 4th, Seahawks fans!" one fan stated. "So cool the Seahawks won on the 250th yr anniversary of America! No fans of any other team can say that!"
The Seattle Seahawks defeated the Patriots to win Super Bowl LX last season.
For one day, the NFL's Independence Day post briefly put rivalries aside, with fans from across the league joining together to celebrate the country's 250th anniversary.
