Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs have once again reset the quarterback market, and this time the numbers are hard to ignore across the league. This precedent could soon be bad news for other quarterbacks.

According to Ravens Wire, for Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens, that number naturally becomes part of the conversation.

Jackson has already been through contract resets of his own, and Baltimore has used resources in the past to manage cap space while keeping him at the centre of the roster.

According to ESPN, Mahomes’ reworked deal is worth $504.75 million from 2026 through 2033, making it the first contract to cross the half-billion mark. The contract includes $239.05 million guaranteed at signing, with incentives that could push the total even higher.

From 2027 onward, it averages around $64 million per year, setting a new benchmark for elite quarterbacks.

Mahomes’ new deal doesn't direct changes to Jackson's contract today, but it does add another reference point for where the top of the market now sits.

Baltimore has spent recent seasons balancing roster building around Jackson while keeping long-term flexibility in place. That same challenge is still there, just now with a higher price tag attached to the quarterback position overall.

For the Ravens, it's not about reacting immediately. It's more about how the next Jackson extension conversation fits into a market that Mahomes just pushed even higher again.

Can Mahomes’ Latest Deal Reshapes Chiefs’ Future

The Kansas City Chiefs and Patrick Mahomes have once again gone back to the table and reworked his deal, continuing a pattern that's now happened three times in the last six years.

According to ESPN, all three major contract resets were handled by Equity Sports CEO Chris Cabott and general manager Brett Veach.

Over the span, the Chiefs have now committed about $689.05 million in new money to Mahomes from 2022 through 2033 as they continue building around their team quarterback.

"Over the last decade, Patrick has become one of the most iconic, beloved sports figures of all time," said Hunt on June 11. "He has helped lead our franchise to five Super Bowl appearances and three championships...putting Kansas City on the world stage, and on top of it all, he has been an outstanding role model in the community."

Mahomes' contract has already gone through multiple stages, from a rookie deal in 2077 to his landmark extension in 2020, and now these latest adjustments as the quarterback market continues to rise across the league.

The latest move comes as Mahomes works his way back from a torn ACL and LCL suffered in December 2025, with Kansas City expecting him to be ready for the start of the 2026 season.
