The Cincinnati Bengals' front office has faced plenty of criticism in recent years, with director of player personnel Duke Tobin often under scrutiny. Despite possessing an explosive offense, Cincinnati struggled to build a defense capable of supporting its championship ambitions.

However, things have changed this season. The Bengals made significant moves to overhaul their defensive front, acquiring Dexter Lawrence, Jonathan Allen, and Boye Mafe. Those additions have transformed the unit into a far more disruptive force.

Lawrence has recorded four sacks, while Mafe has emerged as a consistent threat off the edge. Allen has also strengthened the defensive interior, helping Cincinnati pressure quarterbacks and shut down running lanes.

The results were evident against Baltimore in Week 7. After trailing 13-0 at halftime, Cincinnati's defense shut out the Ravens in the second half, securing a commanding 35-13 comeback victory.

Now, NFL legend J.J. Watt has praised the front office's recruitment strategy, highlighting the immediate impact of its defensive additions.

"I mean, think about what they added on defense. Like, their defensive additions have been unbelievable. You got Dexter Lawrence with four sacks. You got Boye Mafe out on the edge, crushing it. You've got Jonathan Allen. Nobody runs between the tackles on them. Jonathan Allen and Dexter Lawrence. Oh, stout, incredible players and getting to the quarterback. They're doing a really nice job."

Watt's comments offer a compelling response to the criticism Tobin and company have faced. Although the defense still has room to improve, these additions are already delivering the impact Cincinnati desperately needed.

Bengals' Dexter Lawrence Has Changed the Defense's Swagger

Former NFL star Chris Harris Jr. previously praised Lawrence for transforming Cincinnati's defensive identity, highlighting his value as an anchor against the run.

With Mafe generating pressure off the edge and Allen strengthening the interior, the Bengals finally possess a defensive front capable of troubling opposing offenses. If these performances continue, the offseason overhaul could prove pivotal to Cincinnati's championship ambitions.
