Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow enters Sunday’s matchup with the Houston Texans facing a question mark over his availability.
Burrow dealt with back tightness during the week and was featured in the Fowler Files. NFL insider Jeremy Fowler offered an encouraging update on his status during ESPN's SportsCenter.
Fowler explained that Burrow’s back tightness had improved. He practiced and threw the ball well on Friday, and Cincinnati head coach Zac Taylor also said his quarterback was trending in the right direction.
Fowler then delivered the latest word on Burrow’s availability for Week 2:
“With Joe Burrow, it's back tightness. The back is less tight because he did practice yesterday and threw the ball well. The head coach, Zac Taylor, said he's trending in the right direction. Officially listed as questionable, he is set to play, I'm told. Barring something unforeseen, Burrow should be good.”
That puts Burrow on track to lead Cincinnati against Houston. He will do so unless he suffers a late setback.
Joe Burrow's injury history remains a concern for Bengals
In his Fowler Files, Jeremy Fowler also noted that Joe Burrow had missed 16 games over the past three seasons. With the Bengals QB1 so central to the franchise's plans, his injury history makes any setback even more concerning.
The Bengals also have veteran quarterback Joe Flacco behind Burrow. Fowler said Flacco will not start against the Texans unless Cincinnati makes a late change.
For now, Cincinnati expects Burrow to take the first snap in Week 2, with the Bengals continuing to monitor his back ahead of kickoff.
