After the Bengals missed the playoffs last season, QB Joe Burrow said he has intentionally become more vocal as he tries to bring greater urgency to the locker room ahead of the 2026 campaign.
Burrow, while speaking to Geoff Hobson of Bengals.com, said that this year he is choosing a much tougher approach.
“This offseason I really focused on trying to bring urgency to the room and try to just get everybody to understand the level of urgency that we have this year,” Burrow said. “The level of play that’s going to be required from every individual who steps on that field."

In OTAs and offseason workouts, Burrow, per Geoff Hobson, tried to incorporate his new ‘mean’ style. This, at times, kept him out of his comfort zone.
"I’ve tried to communicate that. I’ve tried to be a little more vocal in a mean way," he added. "I think that’s a little out of my comfort zone, but that’s somewhere that I’m improving. Maybe it’s good, and maybe it’s bad, but we’ll find out,” he said.
Burrow admitted he has been more vocal this offseason, calling things out in the moment rather than letting them slide. He acknowledged it is a different approach for him, but one he is willing to lean into if it brings more intensity to the room.
Burrow believes that personal shift has been matched by significant changes to Cincinnati's roster, strengthening his confidence heading into the new season.
Burrow says his confidence also comes from Cincinnati's revamped roster
Joe Burrow isn't hiding from the massive expectations surrounding the Cincinnati Bengals this season. Following the early conclusion of mandatory minicamp, the franchise quarterback made a bold comparison that should put the rest of the NFL on notice.
Burrow likened the vibe of the current squad to his legendary 2019 LSU Tigers team, which is widely considered one of the greatest collections of talent in college football history.
Burrow gets the confidence after the team brought in defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence, edge rusher Boye Mafe, safety Bryan Cook, and lineman Jonathan Allen. The Bengals have infused their roster with a dangerous new edge.
Burrow believes the pieces are finally in place for a historic run in Cincinnati. Burrow shared this with the media on 17th June.
“I want everybody talking about the Bengals,” Burrow said. “You can go back and watch press conferences and what I said before the 2019 season at LSU—I feel very similarly about this team.”
Having previously stated that this is the most talented roster he has played with since being drafted in 2020, Burrow is doubling down.
With a reloaded defense and elite weapons like Ja'Marr Chase, the Bengals are locked in on a Super Bowl-or-bust mentality.
