Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Ja'marr Chase (1) celebrates a touchdown by Tee Higgins in the second quarter of the NFL Week 18 game between the Cincinnati Bengals and the Cleveland Browns at Paycor Stadium in Downtown Cincinnati on Sunday, Jan. 4, 2026.
Ja'Marr Chase hasn't enjoyed the statistical dominance many expected from him this season. Through six appearances, the Cincinnati Bengals receiver has recorded 32 receptions for 351 yards and five touchdowns.
However, his targets have also taken a noticeable hit. Chase has received just 45 targets, averaging 7.5 per game. That's a significant reduction from his 2025 campaign, when he averaged over 10 targets per appearance.
For an ambitious receiver accustomed to being the focal point of Cincinnati's passing attack, this isn't ideal. Chase has already expressed his desire for a breakout performance, admitting that he wants to produce more.
However, when questioned about his declining numbers and whether he was comfortable with the reduced workload, Chase made his priorities clear.
"I'm a team first guy. Whatever is going to make us win."
It's a straightforward response that highlights his commitment to Cincinnati's collective success. While individual production remains important to an elite receiver, Chase understands that winning championships requires sacrifices.
His willingness to embrace that responsibility could prove just as valuable as his contributions on the field.
Ja'Marr Chase Proves He's More Than Just a Superstar Receiver
Chase recently demonstrated his leadership qualities during Cincinnati's comeback victory over Baltimore. After the Bengals trailed 13-0 at halftime, he delivered an emotional speech that helped inspire a 35-13 victory.
The receiver later admitted that he was furious with the team's first-half performance and demanded greater accountability from everyone.
His leadership was also recognised by linebacker Demetrius Knight Jr., who praised Chase's competitive mentality and desire to win.
For Cincinnati, having a superstar willing to put team success ahead of individual numbers is invaluable. Chase's influence extends well beyond the receiving statistics.
