QB Joe Burrow has changed his leadership style for the 2026 offseason. He is stepping out of his "comfort zone" and being "vocal in a mean way" to create more urgency in the Bengals' locker room, as he said in a recent press conference. He also compared the Bengals 2026 roster to his famous 2019 LSU Tigers team.
While experts love quarterbacks' intense focus on accountability, his bold style sets him apart from other star QBs. On ESPN's Pardon The Interruption, co-host Tony Kornheiser strongly agreed with Burrow.
“This is not Lamar Jackson, who doesn't win in the playoffs,” Kornheiser added. “This is not Dak Prescott, who gets paid billions of dollars, but doesn't win the playoffs. It's not Justin Herbert. Everybody says he has the most beautiful arm in the history of the world, doesn't win in the playoffs.”
Kornheiser's comments pointed to a reality check for several of the league's biggest quarterbacks, as he used Burrow's playoff resume to draw a sharp contrast with some of the NFL's other star QBs.
While Burrow has been outspoken about the Bengals' potential, the ESPN host pointed to his playoff record as evidence that he has backed up those expectations more consistently.
“Lamar Jackson, three and five in the playoffs. Dak Prescott, four and five. Justin Herbert, zero and three. And Joe Burrow, five and two. Case closed. I'd be rolling with that guy.” Kornheiser said.
In his second professional season, Burrow carried the Bengals to the Super Bowl, proving he backs up locker room pressure with elite execution.
Burrow's leadership approach has drawn praise from some analysts, particularly because of his postseason success and track record of elevating the Bengals in high-pressure situations.
And this season, Burrow has shown confidence to reach the Super Bowl and even went on to claim that this is the best team he has seen so far. However, the concern will always remain his health.
Joe Burrow Believes That The Bengals Are More Dangerous Than Ever
Joe Burrow's confidence isn't just about his own stats. He is excited because the Cincinnati Bengals have a much stronger and deeper team this year.
Last season, the Bengals relied too heavily on just a few star players. When Burrow and other key teammates got hurt, the rest of the roster was unable to compensate, and the team struggled. However, per reports from AZ Sports, the Bengals have strengthened their roster significantly.
“We have everything we need,” Burrow said.
This year, things look different for the Bengals. The front office worked diligently to upgrade its roster by acquiring star defensive lineman Dexter Lawrence, veteran Jonathan Allen, pass rusher Boye Mafe, and offensive lineman Dalton Risner.
There are now plenty of talented backup players, and competition for a spot on the team will be much tougher this summer. Burrow believes this extra depth is exactly what they need to win a championship.
