Cowboys Emerge As Surprise Shedeur Sanders Landing Spot As Browns Trade Talks Heat Up

Shedeur Sanders could find himself on a multiple-time Super Bowl-winning team this season. As the QB1 battle heats up in Cleveland, reports suggest Jerry Jones is looking to bring in a new backup QB.

Cooper Kleinberg of Pro Football Network spoke of the same when he discussed possible landing spots for the Browns QB.

“Three summers ago, Dallas traded a fourth-round pick for former 49ers No.3 overall pick Trey Lance, and in the spring of 2025, it dealt a fifth-round pick for Joe Milton III,” wrote Kleinberg. “While Milton remains under contract, both quarterback experiments appear to have fallen short and third time could be the charm.”

Both Lance and Milton didn't work out well with the team. Lance played for just one season, managing 266 yards and no touchdowns across four games. And so far, Milton has been similar, completing four games with 183 yards, a touchdown, and multiple interceptions.

We saw the impact an injury to Dak Prescott can bring to the Cowboys back in 2024. That's why Kleinberg added, “Jones could acquire Sanders for relatively cheap and give him the opportunity to develop behind Dak Prescott as the team’s long-term backup.”

Sanders started seven games last season, managing 1400 yards and 8 scrimmage touchdowns despite a rough start. Under the guidance of one of the best QBs in the NFL at the moment, Sanders could see a lot of growth. And if it's any consolation, it's the team where his father, Deion, won a Super Bowl

What Sanders' other options look like

Kleinberg has also named the San Francisco 49ers and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as other possible destinations for Sanders. As the offseason slowly comes to an end.

There's some room to grow with the Bucs, but a crowded QB room could see Sanders linger at the bottom of the depth chart. However, a move to San Francisco might be a game-changer, allowing Shedeur to work under a top coach.

As Kleinberg mentioned, "Arguably, nobody in the NFL is better at developing quarterbacks than 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan. For years, he helped Jimmy Garoppolo play at a high level, and more recently, he developed Brock Purdy into one of the league’s better quarterbacks."

It's yet another team that his father played for. Perhaps we could see a member of the Sanders family return to the team and discover his true potential.
