One of the biggest takeaways from the Cincinnati Bengals’ Week 1 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers was how little Ja’Marr Chase got involved in the passing game.
Bengals QB Joe Burrow targeted Chase just four times in the 33-27 victory, with the star receiver finishing with two catches for 12 yards. That put him behind three other Bengals in targets and tied him for seventh in receiving yards with Andrei Iosivas.
Chase’s limited role may have been influenced by the injury scare he experienced late in training camp. Offensive coordinator Dan Pitcher admitted the Bengals needed to get their top receiver more involved. He said:
"We didn't throw him the ball enough. Pretty simple. We got to throw him the ball more. He's the best receiver in the world."
Is Bengals Joe Burrow injured?
Joe Burrow reported a light back issue following the game against Tampa Bay. However, despite the setback, Burrow has said that he will be fit for the Texans game on Sunday.
Burrow was in great form in Week 1, completing 25 of 35 passes for 254 yards, 1 touchdown and 1 interception.
