After the 2026 NFL Draft concluded, teams across the league went about signing UDFAs (undrafted free agents), and the Cincinnati Bengals stood out by going after a player with a massive incentive.

The team turned to San Diego State offensive lineman Christian Jones and backed it with a notable financial commitment, surpassing last year's biggest bonus.

According to KPRC2, Aaron Wilson reports that Jones had received a $50,000 signing bonus with his deal. That's a huge bonus for an undrafted player and also points to how heavily Cincinnati was targeting him.

Jones wasn’t the only addition. The Bengals also signed linebacker Maema Njongmeta, linebacker Eric Gentry, safety Isaiah Nwokobia, and linebacker Jack Dingle, along with Jones.

For reference, Cincinnati's biggest UDFA bonus last year was around $30,000 (Eric Gregory), and the $50,000 deal is clearly a measurable jump. With undrafted deals, the bonus is often the only guaranteed money, and boosting that number has been an interesting move.

This move wasn’t just about adding another name to the roster. It showed how the Bengals realised the shortcomings, specifically in respect to the depth at tackle (a position that wasn't addressed during the draft itself).

Further, by providing that player with a comparatively larger bonus, it enabled the Bengals to make it clear to their new player that the arrangement was specifically targeted at performances.

From San Diego State to Cincinnati: Christian Jones’ Path and College Profile

Before joining the Cincinnati Bengals, Christian Jones spent four seasons at San Diego State, where he built a steady role on the offensive line.

He participated in 49 games in his college career and received regular snaps.

As an offensive lineman, his production isn't measured in percentages, yards, or touchdowns. Instead, his value was found in pass protection and run blocking consistency as reported in Bengals Wire.

Jones’ physical profile stood out during the draft process. According to draft data and KPRC2 reports, the player is listed 6'8-6'9, 340 lbs. with a considerable wingspan and arm length, making him one of the largest interior offensive linemen in the class of 2026.

The player also displayed inside-out flexibility, and can have reps at both tackle and interior spots when required
