Bengals $40M Star Eyes Super Bowl Run With Joe Burrow After Leaving Patrick Mahomes

Bengals safety Bryan Cook speaks to the media during a press conference at Paycor Stadium in Cincinnati on Thursday, March 12, 2026.

Bryan Cook left two Super Bowl rings in Kansas City to come home. The safety signed a three-year, $40.25 million deal with the Cincinnati Bengals in March, choosing to return to the city where he grew up and played college football at the University of Cincinnati.

Two weeks into his time in Cincinnati, Joe Burrow is already singing his praises.

"You see that out of Bryan Cook from Day One," Burrow said. "You can tell that he's going to set a standard in that room and make everybody live up to it and put pressure on everybody if they don't."

Burrow noticed immediately. The QB praised the standard Cook is already setting in the locker room, just days into their time together as teammates.

Cook was caught off guard by the words, given how little time they have spent together, per Bengals.com.

"Appreciate that. That's real love from Joe B. for real. I don't know what to say," Cook said.

Burrow's words suggest that Cook is exactly what the Bengals' roster needs to go get themselves a Super Bowl. Especially as someone who has already gotten a taste of victory with Mahomes in Kansas City, the safety can inspire a similar drive in Cincinnati.

Cook started all 17 games for the Chiefs in 2025, recording 85 tackles, six passes defended and one tackle for loss. He missed only 11 tackles over his last two seasons in Kansas City.

Cook ranked seventh among safeties with 400-plus snaps played in missed tackle rate before hitting free agency and pricing out of the Chiefs' budget.

However, Cook did not join the Bengals simply to collect a paycheck.

Cook Arrives With One Goal in Mind

Bryan Cook returned to Cincinnati because he genuinely believes this roster can achieve what the franchise has never done before: secure a Lombardi trophy.

"I've always had respect for him [Burrow], the guys, and the organization," Cook said. "Now it's just trying to get over this hump so you can say you did something that's never been done in franchise history."

His locker room neighbor, CB Dax Hill, has already seen enough during spring practices to know what kind of impact player just walked through the door.

"Committed. Locked in. Good dude," Hill said, "I feel like he's a good addition to the defense because of what he brings to the table with the experience he had at Kansas City."

Despite bringing two championship rings with him from the Chiefs, Cook is intentionally taking a back seat to listen to his new teammates first. His leadership philosophy relies entirely on building authentic emotional connections in the secondary."

"God gave every human being two ears and a mouth for a reason. You should listen twice as much as you talk," Cook explained. "I'm listening to the guys, trying to understand where they're coming from and how they move. How can I reach this person if need be? You never know what somebody is going through... Just being somebody to lean on."
