The Cincinnati Bengals fanbase has erupted at yet another NFL mix-up. Analyst Emmanuel Acho criticized QB Joe Burrow for calling the franchise's current lineup "the most talented roster" during his time with the Bengals during a recent press release.
But Acho made a big error while criticizing the statement, and fans called him out for it immediately.
Emmanuel Acho said, "I think it's offensive and inaccurate to say that this is the most talented roster Joe Burrow's had since he's been there... Tyler Eifert was also like that when he was healthy," on his Speakeasy YouTube show.
According to Acho, Cincinnati also had a great roster in the past, including Joe Mixon, Tyler Boyd, Tee Higgins, and Ja'Marr Chase.
He pointed out that Joe Mixon was the only player to record 100 rushing yards and a rushing touchdown in six consecutive road games in NFL history, calling Mixon "criminally underrated."
"So far, Joe Burrow has to either omit, overlook, or forget about Joe Mixon, Boyd, and a healthy Eifert to me, that's disrespectful to the guys that came before him," he added.
However, the controversy spread after a viral post from a Bengals fan account on X pointed out a glaring discrepancy. Eifert's final season in Cincinnati was in 2019, while Burrow entered the league in 2020.
The timeline difference became a talking point among NFL fans and media.
Burrow's arrival in Cincinnati marked the beginning of a whole new era for the Bengals after their Andy Dalton years. And Bengal fans saw Acho's mistake as a lack of basic franchise knowledge.
The simple error turned into a league-wide discussion with fans flooding in, upping the pressure analysts face when discussing franchise history.
Bengals' Fans Called Out Acho's Factual Error
Emmanuel Acho's statement immediately triggered backlash online. Fans criticized the analyst for not knowing a franchise's history before commenting on its roster.
Worse, Acho delivered his opinions confidently in front of wide receiver T. J. Houshmandzadeh, who had played for the Bengals for eight seasons, from 2001 to 2008.
"How do you cover the NFL and not know Joe Burrow and Tyler Eifert never played together?" one fan commented.
Burrow entered the Cincinnati Bengals in 2020, while Eifert's Bengals tenure had already ended the previous season. Injuries had affected the latter's long-term impact before he left the franchise.
Another fan mocked, saying, "1st, bro doesn't even know what rosters he's talking about....and 2nd, he's talking about the whole roster l*** he only mentions offensive weapons and ignores the trenches on both sides of the ball and the defense overall"
They pointed out that the analyst had completely disregarded the current roster's defensive prospects.
"This is why national media should stop pretending they watch Cincinnati," another fan commented, mocking the analyst.
Bengal fans have been arguing that smaller market teams receive surface-level coverage from analysts as compared to the others. And now that Burrow's stardom has garnered more attention, factual errors stand out even more.
"Bengals fans know our history better than the people paid to talk about it," said another X user.
Fans quickly corrected the mistake with statistics and roster timelines, showing just how easy the fact check should have been.
This viral moment once again showed how quickly NFL statements can spiral online.
