Brendan Sorsby's unusual path to the NFL took another turn this week after he received a strong endorsement from a familiar football name.
According to an X post, Jordan Rodgers, the brother of Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers, made a bold assessment of Sorsby during ESPN's Get Up while discussing the quarterback's supplemental draft prospects.
“Yeah, I think he’s got a higher ceiling than [Fernando] Mendoza and [Ty] Simpson,” Rodgers said via Monday’s episode of Get Up.
Rodgers' assessment aligns closely with FOX Sports NFL Draft analyst Rob Rang, who actively placed a second-round grade on Sorsby for 2027 while comparing his traits to a hybrid of Baker Mayfield and Jaxson Dart
His comparison has grabbed attention as Mendoza was the No. 1 overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft. On the other hand, Simpson was viewed as one of the league's most pro-ready quarterback prospects.
Rodgers emphasized the immense value of capitalizing on Sorsby's unique circumstances, noting that his pure arm talent surpasses recent mid-round draft selections like Carson Beck, Drew Allar, or Cade Klubnik.
Sorsby's college career ended due to an off-field controversy. Last season, Sorsby threw for 2,800 yards, 27 touchdowns, and just five interceptions. He also added nine rushing touchdowns.
“I don’t mean that he’s a better player now. Both of those guys were drafted because their floor is extremely high. They are pro-ready. But from a pure talent standpoint, arm ability and athletic ability, he’s got a higher ceiling now.”
His comments focused on adding long-term potential rather than current ability. Rodgers also sounded skeptical as Sorsby awaits a decision on whether the NFL will hold a supplemental draft this year.
The growing interest around Sorsby is reflected in the pre-draft process as well. His agent, Ron Slavin, recently revealed that 26 NFL teams have already reached out, as per NBC Sports.
With Sorsby's growing talent, his situation is now drawing attention from two rivals.
Steelers' interest could put the Baltimore Ravens on alert
According to Ravens Wire, Pittsburgh has emerged as one of the teams keeping a close eye on Sorsby's situation as the supplemental draft process unfolds.
In a recent appearance on The Yinziders, Steelers insider Mike DeFabo discussed the quarterback's status and suggested the offseason controversy may not remove him from Pittsburgh's roster.
"It sounds like (Sorsby's being punished for gambling) at this point would not be a disqualifier for the Steelers."
His comment matters as the Steelers are considered Baltimore's biggest rival in the AFC North. The two franchises have spent decades battling for division titles and playoff positioning.
The interest makes sense in building the roster for the future, as Aaron Rodgers gives the Steelers a short-term answer at quarterback.
Sorsby's future remains uncertain as he waits for clarity on the supplemental draft. However, endorsements from analysts like Jordan Rodgers and interest from teams prove his worth.
