The Steelers are hoping Aaron Rodgers and DK Metcalf can become one of the NFL's top quarterback-wide receiver combinations. Analyst Kyle Brandt believes that must happen if Pittsburgh wants to take the next step.

During ESPN's NFL Live: Back Together Weekend, Brandt pointed to Joe Burrow and Ja'Marr Chase as the kind of connection the Steelers should aim for.

"I think Rodgers and DK need to be spectacular this year. Not can be. Need to be. Not in the same block maybe as Burrow and Ja'Marr Chase, but in the same neighborhood… I think this needs to be a prolific season for DK Metcalf."

Last season, Burrow threw for 4,918 yards, 43 touchdowns, and nine interceptions while Chase finished with 127 catches, 1,708 receiving yards, and 17 touchdowns.

Rodgers finished 2025 with 3,322 passing yards, 24 touchdowns, and seven interceptions in 16 games, while Metcalf recorded 59 receptions for 850 yards and six touchdowns across 15 games.

Burrow and Chase have set a high standard, dating back to their days at LSU, and they have continued to produce together in Cincinnati.

 Rodgers and Metcalf have both pointed out that they have grown closer since last season. Now the Steelers will be looking for that chemistry to show up on the field when the 2026 season begins.

While the comparison sets a high standard, Pittsburgh believes the pieces are in place for Rodgers and Metcalf to grow together.

After Mike Tomlin's departure, the Steelers begin a new chapter under head coach Mike McCarthy, who reunites with Rodgers after their successful years together in Green Bay.

Analyst Steve Silverman of ClutchPoints believes that familiarity could make a difference.

"The pair already worked together a year ago and were fairly productive, but their second year together has a chance to be memorable," Silverman wrote on ClutchPoints on July 31.

This year, however, Metcalf won't have to carry the passing game either after the Steelers added Michael Pittman Jr., a two-time 1,000-yard receiver, from the Colts.

"Rodgers wants to go out competing at a championship level, and he should get a lift from his receivers," Silverman added.

With McCarthy calling the shots and more weapons around him, the veteran quarterback will be looking to make his final NFL season one to remember and give Pittsburgh's offense a chance to take another step forward.
