The Cincinnati Bengals signed fourth-round rookie Colbie Young to a $5.16 million deal, per Over The Cap.

The 6-foot-5 Georgia standout provides Burrow with a massive target for the 2026 season. Young joins a receiving corps built on precision and catches. Offensive lineman Jalen Rivers described him by saying, “The epitome of a Bengal.”

Young is 6-foot-5, 218 pounds, and teammates have said his ability to catch the ball is one of the most impressive they have ever seen. OT Amarius Mims went on to say that Young rarely drops a pass, according to Marca.

Comparisons to Tee Higgins have been inevitable, and in a Bengals offense that is built on precision and contested catches, that kind of consistency does matter.

Young started at Lackawanna College in 2021 before transferring to Miami and then Georgia, where a broken leg cut his final season short after eight games.

From 2022 to 2025, he played in 35 games, recording 116 receptions for 1,437 receiving yards and 13 touchdowns. He averaged 12.4 receiving yards per reception.

Colbie Young Fits Into Bengals Offense

Scouts analyzed Young’s tape to project his collegiate skill set.

“Young’s athletic traits, play strength, and ball skills stand out, but missed games have limited his production… On tape, he uses his size, muscle, and catch radius to beat cornerbacks in tight quarters and above the rim,” NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein wrote.

“His speed and separation are average,” Zierlein said. “That means he’s likely to see a higher volume of contested catches at the next level.”

His route-running needs work, but he has a chance to be more productive in the pros, given his ability to break tackles after the catch and his overall talent.

Young caught just 26 passes for 258 yards and a touchdown in his final season at Georgia. And has the potential to provide the required aid to Burrow and learn behind Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins.

SANJANA BHALERAO Ranking the Top 10 Most Successful Bengals Wide Receivers of All Time
Since 1968, Cincinnati has built its identity through the air. From AFL pioneers catching passes in the franchise’s infancy to modern-day stars rewriting record books, these ten receivers tell the story of five decades of Bengal football excellence. Ian Johnson/Icon Sportswire/imago
The original pass-catching tight end in Bengals history, Trumpy hauled in 298 receptions for 4,600 yards and 35 touchdowns across 128 games. An AFL All-Star in 1969, 1970, and 1972, he earned Pro Bowl honors three more times in the early 1970s. Trumpy pioneered the receiving tight end role during Cincinnati’s AFL era. via ebay
McGee’s 4,703 yards came on 282 catches and 25 touchdowns over 121 games, averaging a deep-threat 16.7 yards per reception. He was a reliable slot weapon during the Bengals’ 1980s and early 1990s offenses, contributing to the team’s Super Bowl XXIII run in 1989. His consistency made him a trusted target for over a decade. via ebay
The ultimate WR2 of the 2000s, T.J. Houshmandzadeh, ranks eighth among Bengals receivers after posting 5,782 yards and 37 touchdowns. A dependable weapon for Carson Palmer, he consistently created matchup problems, either drawing coverage or freeing teammates and became one of the most reliable, fan-favourite targets of Cincinnati’s high-powered passing era. imago/Icon SMI
A true deep-ball menace of the 1990s, Darnay Scott opens this list as the Bengals’ tenth-best receiver. He produced 5,975 yards and 36 touchdowns—both eighth in team history—while never fumbling once. Often a bright spot in a difficult era, Scott’s impact shows just how strong Cincinnati’s wide-receiver legacy really is. via ebay
Nicknamed “Weapon,” Brown exploded onto the scene in 1985 with 15 rookie receiving touchdowns, still the Bengals’ all-time rookie record. He finished with 6,134 yards, 363 receptions, and 41 touchdowns in 102 games, earning Rookie of the Year honors and a 1988 Pro Bowl selection. His big-play ability made him one of the most dangerous receivers of his era. via ebay
The signature Bengals receiver of the 1980s, Cris Collinsworth totaled 6,698 yards, 36 touchdowns and three Pro Bowls while spending his entire career in Cincinnati. A Dayton native and key piece of the 1982 Super Bowl run, he’s also the only NFL rookie ever to top 1,000 regular-season yards and 100 Super Bowl receiving yards. via ebay
Carl Pickens was the bright spot of the Bengals’ 1990s offenses, delivering 6,887 yards, 63 touchdowns, two Pro Bowls, and a 1992 Offensive Rookie of the Year award. Despite cycling through eight quarterbacks in eight seasons, his production never dipped. Fourth in team receiving yards and third in touchdowns, Pickens’ Bengals legacy is firmly secure. via ebay
The first true star wideout in Bengals history, Isaac Curtis delivered 7,101 yards, 53 touchdowns, and four Pro Bowls across 12 seasons in Cincinnati. Longevity helped him climb the record books, but his talent did the rest, cementing Curtis as one of the franchise’s foundational greats and earning him a firm spot inside the top four. via ebay
AJ Green, arguably the smoothest receiver in Bengals history, turned difficult plays into effortless brilliance. With 9,430 yards and 65 touchdowns—both second all-time—plus seven Pro Bowls, he dominated the 2010s. As Andy Dalton’s trusted go-to target and Cincinnati’s best player for years, Green’s place as a top-three Bengal receiver is unquestionable. John Kirkpatrick/imago
Chad Johnson remains the Bengals’ greatest receiver, owning franchise records with 10,783 yards and 66 touchdowns, plus six Pro Bowls and two All-Pro selections. He defined Cincinnati’s 2000s identity with elite production and unmatched swagger. A lifelong Bengals loyalist, Ocho still sets the standard one Ja’Marr Chase may chase, but hasn’t eclipsed yet. Former Bengals DT Lands $12.5M Giants Deal, Ending Reunion Speculation https://www.cincinnatibengalscommunity.com/news/former-bengals-dt-lands-twelve-point-five-million-dollars-giants-deal-ending-reunion-speculation/ Thu, 07 May 2026 05:00:00 +0000 https://www.cincinnatibengalscommunity.com/?p=100771 When the former Detroit Lions nose tackle DJ Reader decided to leave the franchise, speculations emerged that the Cincinnati Bengals might open the door again. But Reader have closed reunion talk with the Bengals as he signed a new contract with the New York Giants.

According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, the two-year deal is worth the base value of $ 12.5 million. It could be worth as much as $15.5 million, adding on his performance bonuses.

During his second season in Cincinnati, Reader helped lead the Bengals to three playoff victories and a Super Bowl LVI appearance. He notched a sack in the narrow loss to the Los Angeles Rams and earned the team’s Ed Block Courage Award at season’s end.

Last season with Detroit, he did not miss a single regular-season game. In 2025, he racked up 28 tackles and four quarterback hits.

DETROIT, MI – SEPTEMBER 28: Detroit Lions defensive end DJ Reader 98 takes the field prior to the Detroit Lions versus the Cleveland Browns game on Sunday September 28, 2025 at Ford Field in Detroit, MI. The reason he was allowed to go was the Lions’ prioritizing a younger defensive core. They’ll be putting their trust in former 1st-round draft pick Tyleik Williams.

“I think the Lions would’ve gladly welcomed him back, but not at that price,” said Jeremy Reisman of SB Nation. “They have been in ultra-savings mode. Only one free agent signing/re-signing has averaged more the $5M a year.”

In New York, the defensive tackle position was just left vacant after they shipped their three-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle, Dexter Lawrence, to the Bengals.

The need for a well-built tank in defense is what prompted the 31-year-old Reader’s move to New York. His addition gives the Giants the type of 0-technique they lacked in 2025 after Lawrence’s departure. His ability to absorb double teams should help keep linebackers free to make plays.

According to ESPN, Reader led the NFL with a 71.7% double-team rate last season.

Why the DJ Reader and Bengals Reunion Was Never Happening

Back in Cincinnati, Reader was a two-time team captain. At the same time, his four-year, $53 million contract from 2020 was the largest in Bengals history at the time.

Cincinnati had even explored a reunion with Reader earlier in the offseason. But things flipped when Lawrence arrived, carrying a price tag of a first-round NFL Draft pick and an extra $28 million.

Along with the Giants, the Baltimore Ravens, too, were interested in Reader. He even paid a visit to the Ravens’ camp, just two weeks after they traded for his former teammate, Trey Hendrickson. But they went with signing Calais Campbell at the defensive tackle position.

With a starting role now in place, Reader joins the Giants, hoping to climb higher under first-year head coach John Harbaugh and young quarterback Jaxson Dart.

Why Caleb Downs Might Not Have Fallen to the Bengals at No. 10 https://www.cincinnatibengalscommunity.com/news/why-caleb-downs-might-not-have-fallen-to-the-bengals-at-no-ten/ Wed, 06 May 2026 21:01:40 +0000 https://www.cincinnatibengalscommunity.com/?p=100377 The Cincinnati Bengals didn’t just trade out of the top 10; they have also stepped away from a draft board that was already moving fast. And as the board heated up, one name kept drawing attention: Caleb Downs.

It was not just interest; it was his profile.

Downs was widely viewed as a top-10 prospect, with multiple draft analysts labelling him one of the best all-around defensive players in the 2026 class, according to reports from ESPN and The Athletic.

On the other hand, Downs wasn’t seen as just a safety; he also projected as a movable defensive piece, capable of lining up in the slot, at safety, or in hybrid roles.

Downs has been one of the most talked-about defensive players heading into the 2026 draft. Multiple teams had eyes on him.

Initially, Downs was drafted by the Dallas Cowboys after Dallas traded up to the No. 11 pick with the Miami Dolphins. If the Cowboys had their way, they would’ve drafted him two picks earlier.

That idea picked up more weight after ESPN’s draft documentary “The Pick Is In” revealed that the Cleveland Browns were offered a trade by Dallas for the No. 9 pick. The Cowboys were actively trying to jump ahead of the New York Giants to lock in Downs inside the top 10.

At the end comes Cincinnati’s own move.

The Bengals dealt the No. 10 pick in a trade involving Dexter Lawrence, taking themselves out of the race. The combination of trade interest and Downs’ rising stock suggests that he wouldn’t have been available by the time they were on the clock.

What Made Caleb Downs a Top-10 Target on The Board

During Caleb Downs’ college run, he consistently filled the stat sheet, finishing with strong tackle production each season, along with multiple interceptions and pass breakups, as per ESPN stats and college records.

Despite having some safety depth, teams in the top 10 recognized Downs’ ability to act as a “defensive chess piece.”

Beyond the numbers, he showed range in coverage, physicality near the line, and the ability to play multiple roles in the secondary. All together, this made him a top-tier defensive prospect and drew heavy interest from teams looking for an immediate impact player, as per The Athletic and pre-draft scouting reports.

What pushed his value even higher was how he was used. Downs wasn’t locked into one role; he also lined up at safety, dropped into the slot, and even played in hybrid “big nickel” looks depending on the situation.

Maria NFL Draft 2026: Way-Too-Early Cincinnati Bengals Depth Chart Projection
The Bengals used their 7 draft picks to address their defensive and offensive line depth needs quite successfully. They followed it up with 10 undrafted free agent signings. The Bengals front office and head coach seem confident in their choices and look to build support around Joe Burrow and other key players. With this in mind, here’s an early depth chart projection. IMAGO / Icon Sportswire
As one of the few stable positions with consistent results, the special teams unit, also known as the “better together” squad, is expected to continue to do well through 2026. The team retained starters Evan McPherson (K) and William Wagner (LS), adding Ryan Rehkow (P) via free agency to the mix. IMAGO / Icon Sportswire
The Bengals safety unit includes returning starters Bryan Cook and Jordan Battle, followed by Kyle Dugger and PJ Jules as projected backups. PJ Jules also doubles as a key special teams contributor. While Daijahn Anthony, Russ Yeast, and undrafted free agency signing Isaiah Nwokobia act as reserves. Early predictions point towards competition between Anthony and Jules as second backup alongside Dugger. IMAGO / Icon Sportswire
The Bengals Round 3 pick, Davis Tacario, and offseason signing Ja’Sir Taylor bring depth to the Bengals cornerback unit. And Davis has a larger role as a developmental project with starting potential. Lineup-wise, veterans DJ Turner II, Dax Hill, and Jalen Davis remain starters, with DJ Ivey, Josh Newton, and Tacario Davis as backups and Ja’Sir Taylor, Bralyn Lux, Jalen Kimber, and undrafted free agency signing Ceyair Wright on reserves. IMAGO / Icon Sportswire
Heading into the offseason, the Bengals linebacker unit was in a spot of bother. The team addressed this partially by taking Demetrius Knight Jr. and Barrett Carter from the 2026 draft. They are expected to take on starting roles with veterans Oren Burks, Joe Giles-Harris, and Liam Anderson as backups and UDFA signings Eric Gentry and Jack Dingle as reserves. Gentry and Dingle bring depth, but the unit is missing another backup option. IMAGO / ZUMA Press Wire
Following the draft, the Bengals defensive unit is shaping up quite nicely as a 3-4 front. The projected lineup has Dexter Lawrence, Jonathan Allen, Myles Murphy, and UDFA signing Boye Mafe as starters, while draft pick Cashius Howell acts as a key player and backup, bringing rotational depth. Much of the unit’s success depends on the reserves, such as Landon Robinson and Cedric Johnson, stepping up without disrupting the dynamics. IMAGO / Icon Sportswire
Strengthening the offensive line was a necessary move for the team. And the Bengals did just that by taking in draft picks Connor Lew and versatile lineman Brian Parker II alongside UDFAs Corey Robinson and Christian Jones as reserves. With the projected starters unchanged, much depends on Parker replacing Cody Ford as the season progresses and Andrew Coker taking on the role of backup right tackle. IMAGO / Icon Sportswire
For the Bengals tight end unit, the primary goal is maintaining health throughout the offseason into the regular season. Keeping up with the offensive and defensive moves, the team drafted Jack Endries in the 7th round of the draft and UDFA Josh Kattus as developmental reserves. They line up alongside starters Drew Sample and Mike Gesicki, followed by Eric All Jr., and Burrow’s trusted tight end Tanner Hudson as backups. IMAGO / Icon Sportswire
The Bengals wide receiver room has a good mix of fresh talent and experience. With starters Ja’Marr Chase, Tee Higgins, and Andrei Iosivas as the key players, round four pick Colbie Young joins the roster as a backup with starting potential. The team also picked UDFA Noah Thomas as a reserve alongside Ke’Shawn Williams. And Williams has the chance to join backup Mitchell Tinsley, who moved up from reserve to backup in 2025. IMAGO / Icon Sportswire
Looking at the Bengals running back room, it is clear the team has confidence in their returning player Chase Brown and Samaje Perine. The team added some depth to the running back room with draft pick Tahj Brooks, UDFAs Kentrell Bullock and Jamal Haynes, and offseason signings Gary Brightwell and Kendall Milton. While Brooks has backup potential, he must prepare for the role through 2026 before joining Perine as backup. IMAGO / ZUMA Press Wire
On the quarterback side of things, Joe Burrow continues as the face of the franchise and starter. The team also signed one year contracts with Joe Flacco and Josh Johnson, who continue their supporting roles as backup and reserve. Sean Clifford also stays on as a reserve. Flacco and Johnson are expected to feature in the majority of the preseason snaps as they build a rhythm for the regular season. IMAGO / ZUMA Press Wire

“I Am Not Down on Our Linebackers”: Duke Tobin Expresses Trust in Current Core https://www.cincinnatibengalscommunity.com/news/i-am-not-down-on-our-linebackers-duke-tobin-expresses-trust-in-current-core/ Wed, 06 May 2026 19:52:36 +0000 https://www.cincinnatibengalscommunity.com/?p=100127 The Cincinnati Bengals have walked out of the 2026 NFL Draft with a roster that looks ready to run. But the one spot everyone keeps circling back to is the “linebacker”. No notable investment has been made, and the questions have followed, but not for the Director.

After two LB picks in the 2025 NFL Draft, this year the Bengals didn’t select a single linebacker. Amidst the post-draft buzz and the noise lingering over the team’s defensive interior, Duke Tobin stepped in to deliver a clear message.

“I am not down on our linebackers,” Tobin said, addressing questions about the unit following the draft. “I think that their play individually will improve and collectively will improve by what we’ve done and the experience that they’ve gained.”

Speaking on Tuesday, during his post-draft press conference at the team facility, he made it clear the concern outside doesn’t match the belief inside the building.

“If there are others that we think can add to the group, we’ll add to the group,” Tobin also said, leaving the door open for new additions. “We’re not done roster building… there’s an entire offseason… and I feel very good about our roster as it sits right now.”

Instead of forcing a move, Cincinnati has leaned into a different approach. As per AtoZSports, Tobin is betting that if the front and back ends are airtight, it’ll elevate the play of last year’s drafted backers Demetrius Knight Jr. and Barrett Carter.

The idea isn’t to replace them but to put them in a better position to produce.

That will be the plan heading into the second half of the offseason. The Bengals still have a couple of spots open on the roster, including training camp, the preseason, and roster cuts, where a linebacker addition could happen if the situation calls for it.

What the Bengals’ Linebacker Room Looks Like Right Now?

The Cincinnati Bengals had entered the offseason program with a seven-man linebacker unit, with an eighth option in hybrid EDGE/LB Antwaun Powell-Ryland listed on the roster.

While LBs are versatile and key players of a football defense, they must quickly identify play styles and make open-field tackles between the defensive line and secondary. As the 2026 NFL draft nears, let’s look at the top 10 LB prospects for @jake_golday/INSTAGRAM
Michigan’s LB Rolder stands at the bottom of this list as one of the prospects in the upcoming NFL draft. His 2025 season carries some impressive records, including 73 tackles, 1 interception, and 2 sacks, which justifies his position on this list. ZUMA Press Wire/IMAGO
The 6’2” 235 lbs TCU Horned Frogs LB Elarms-Orr is also a major prospect in the 2026 NFL draft. He ranks above Rolder in this list by 130 spectacular tackles and 4 sacks that he recorded in his last season. ZUMA Press Wire/IMAGO
Louis from Pittsburgh is one of the bottom rank holders among the top 10 LB prospects in the upcoming NFL draft. He recorded 180 tackles, 6 interceptions, 10 sacks, and 2 forced fumbles in his last 2 seasons, which further cement his position in the current list. ZUMA Press Wire/IMAGO
The son of former Philadelphia Eagles LB Jeremiah Trotter is one of the top linebacker prospects in the 2026 NFL draft. The Tigers’ Josiah Trotter is a reliable tackler who missed only 8.5% of his tackles throughout his career. Furthermore, his 2025 records include 43 solo tackles and 2 sacks, which further secured his place on this list. ZUMA Press Wire/IMAGO
The 239-lb Cincinnati LB Golday nearly missed the top 5 2026 NFL draft prospects of his class. He recorded 38 solo tackles, 3.5 sacks, and 1 forced fumbles as the Bearcats’ linebacker in 2025, which further justifies his position in this list. ZUMA Press Wire/IMAGO
Texas Tech’s LB Rodriguez earned his position in this list by being the top defensive player in college football for the 2025 season. Moreover, his 2025 records come with 128 tackles, 1 sack, 4 interceptions, and 7 forced fumbles, making him one of the top LB prospects for the upcoming draft. ZUMA Press Wire/IMAGO
LB Hill from Texas is one of the top prospects in the 2026 NFL draft. He recorded an impressive 17 sacks in only 3 seasons. Furthermore, the 21-year-old recorded 38 solo tackles and 3 forced fumbles in 2025, which earned him a top position in this list. @thegoat_hill/INSTAGRAM
Georgia’s LB Allen is projected to be the first round 3rd selection in the 2026 NFL draft. The 21-year-old recorded 88 total tackles, 3.5 sacks, and 2 forced fumbles in 2025, which in turn justifies his rank in this list. @cjallen3/INSTAGRAM
The 6’4” 241 lbs Ohio State LB Reese nearly topped the list of top linebacker prospects ahead of the 2026 NFL draft. Reese earned his second rank with his 34 solo tackles and 6.5 sacks that he recorded in his 2025 season with Ohio State. ZUMA Press Wire/IMAGO
Another Ohio State LB, Styles, tops this list with a total of 245 tackles from 2022 to 2025. Moreover, he recorded 46 solo tackles, 1 sack, 1 interception, and 1 forced fumble in his last season, which further justifies him being the topper of this list. ZUMA Press Wire/IMAGO

Barrett Carter is expected to handle MIKE duties, with Demetrius Knight Jr. at WILL. Veterans like Oren Burks, Shaka Heyward, and Joe Giles-Harris could provide depth, as per Pro Football Reference.

Last year, Barrett Carter stacked 53 solo tackles with four breakups and a pick, while Demetrius Knight Jr. brought the heat with three sacks and 58 solos. Year one set the tone for both rookies. Now, year two will show if it was just a start or something bigger.

Behind them, the Bengals have added developmental depth with Eric Gentry and Jack Dingle, though neither profiles as an immediate-impact starter.

“Really Solidify That Defense”: Joe Burrow Praises Bengals’ Defensive Additions https://www.cincinnatibengalscommunity.com/news/really-solidify-that-defense-joe-burrow-praises-bengals-defensive-additions/ Wed, 06 May 2026 16:49:34 +0000 https://www.cincinnatibengalscommunity.com/?p=100539 The Cincinnati Bengals have officially put their foot down. After conceding the 2nd-most yards (6,475) defensively last season, things are changing. Now, quarterback Joe Burrow has come forward to show that he is 100% on board.

Talking to Vanity Fair ahead of his appearance at the 2026 MET Gala, Joe Burrow expressed his excitement about the moves made by the Cincinnati Bengals in the offseason.

“I’m really excited about the moves we made this offseason,” Burrow said to Vanity Fair on May 5th. “We need to get better, so it was exciting to see the initiative from everybody…We’re in our primes playing great football.”

In 2026, the Bengals added Boye Mafe and Bryan Cook on multi-year deals. They also reinforced the interior and made the headline move by landing Dexter Lawrence on a blockbuster extension, parting with their first-round pick.

“Finding guys like Dexter [Lawrence] and Bryan Cook and Boye [Mafe] to, you know, really solidify that defence so the young guys can also kind of rise up. We’re really going to try to achieve what we want to achieve,” Burrow further stated.

In addition to new signings, the franchise also re-invested in their performing players. Extensions for Isaiah Foskey and Shaka Heyward added depth to their roster.

Burrow’s devastating ability with a good defence makes their case for a playoff finish and possibly a return to the Super Bowl much stronger.

Bengals Go All-In Defence With 7 Defensive Acquisitions

Trading away their No. 10 overall draft pick to the New York Giants so they could get Dexter Lawrence, a massive defensive tackle, was certainly an interesting move for Cincinnati.

Top 10 Bengals First-Round Draft Picks From the Last Decade
First-round Draft picks often translate to hope, with expectation to fill the roster with game-changers, steady contributors, and the what-ifs. From Carson Palmer in 2003 to Joe Burrow in 2020, each one of these NFL players has elevated the Bengals’ game in some way. Here are top 10 from the last decade. Tannen Maury/ Imago
The Bengals selected Jackson as their first-round pick in 2016 (24th overall). He proved his credibility the next year, establishing himself as a premier lockdown cornerback. He recorded 27 tackles in 15 games and recorded 1 sack. He accounted for an 34.9% catch rate and an 89.2 overall grade. @houstoncougars/ Instagram
The 9th overall pick in 2017, Ross recorded his career high of 28 receptions in 2019. While accounting for 506 yards, he also amassed 3 touchdowns in the season. He was eventually released by the Bengals in 2021 after being injury-prone for several seasons and limited play time. He came from the Washington Huskies, recording 81 receptions and 17 touchdowns in 2016. Fred Kfoury III/ Iconsportswire/ Imago
Price was picked 21st in the 1st round (2018) of the Ohio State. He suffered a foot injury in week 2. Starting in 10 games, he helped Joe Mixon rush for 1,168 yards. He was also named to the PFWA All-Rookie Team. He eventually retired in May 2024 following the complications due to his surgery. Kostas Lymperopoulos/ Imago
Williams was part of the AFC winning squad in 2021. He was the 11th pick in the first round of the 2019 NFL draft. Williams started 59 games in the four seasons for the Bengals, but was injury-prone. He also recorded a pass block win rate of 84.4%, as per ESPN. John Byrum/ Iconsportswire/ Imago
Probably one of the most interesting picks by the Bengals. Burrow recorded his career best 4918 yards and 43 touchdowns in 2024. He was the first pick in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft. Burrow establishes himself in the squad with a completion rate of 70.6%. Ian Johnson/ Iconsportswire/ Imago
Chase is an elite NFL wide receiver (WR1) for the Cincinnati Bengals. The fifth overall pick in the 2021 draft, he recorded 13 touchdowns and 81 receptions in the season. Chase has recorded more than 1000 yards in all his seasons and has proven to be a rare blend of explosive speed and elite play strength for the Bengals. @lahjay10/ Instagram
Hill proved to be a critical cornerback for the Bengals with great speed. He was the 31st overall pick in 2022. Delivering his best season in 2023, he recorded 110 tackles and 1.5 sacks. He was picked after his career-best performance with the Michigan Wolverines, when he recorded 69 tackles, out of which 42 were solo. Katie Stratman/ Imago
Murphy was the 28th overall pick by the Bengals in the 2023 NFL Draft. Recording his best season in 2025, he recorded 52 tackles. He is one of the finest draft picks known for his impressive 6’5″, 275-lb frame, and increasing ability to stop the run and generate pressure. John Mersits/ Imago
Mims was the 18th overall pick. Coming from Georgia, he appeared in 29 games with 8 starts. Starting all of his games in 2025, he recorded 4 sacks on 835 snaps. Mims will try to improve on his stats as he progresses into the next season. Kareem Elgazzar/ Imago
Stewart recorded 11 tackles in his rookie season for the Bengals. Coming from Texas A&M, he accounted for 31 tackles in the 2024 season. Stewart earned a 17th pick in the 2025 draft and will hope to prove what is expected of him by the team management next season. Albert Cesare/ Imago

Right after that, they added an experienced veteran in Jonathan Allen to the defensive line. His 45.5 career sacks and 270 solo tackles would certainly add depth to the roster.

The Cincinnati Bengals doubled down on fixing the edge and the back end. They pulled in Boye Mafe on a 3-year, $60M deal fresh off a Seattle Seahawks Super Bowl run, adding a 20-sack disruptor as insurance behind Trey Hendrickson.

Then came Bryan Cook, a 3-year, $42.5M pickup from the Kansas City Chiefs, bringing postseason playmaking and versatility to a secondary that needed both.

Rounding out this massive overhaul, they drafted situational edge rusher Cashius Howell and defensive back Tacario Davis for the 2026 season.

That’s not all, the Bengals kept stacking the secondary. They added Kyle Dugger on a low-risk one-year deal, bringing veteran depth and experience from stints with the New England Patriots and Pittsburgh Steelers.

On the offense, with Joe Burrow fit and ready to go, what are your thoughts on this Cincinnati Bengals overhaul? Let us know in the comments below.

Report Outlines Cincinnati’s Strong Position for 2029 NFL Draft https://www.cincinnatibengalscommunity.com/news/report-outlines-cincinnatis-strong-position-for-2029-nfl-draft/ Wed, 06 May 2026 14:27:59 +0000 https://www.cincinnatibengalscommunity.com/?p=95295 Cincinnati has emerged as the clear frontrunner to host the 2029 NFL Draft. Reports indicate the Bengals’ home city holds the ‘inside track’ following the league’s recent event in Pittsburgh.

According to Sports Business Journal’s Ben Fischer, Cincinnati will host the NFL Draft in 2029, as they have an “inside track,” a development that would bring significant attention to the Bengals’ home city.

Fischer also mentioned an interview by Pat McAfee with the NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, who said, “We’re going to probably have to start allocating the drafts a little further in advance.”

The 2027 season’s NFL Draft is confirmed for Washington, D.C., and Minnesota is the frontrunner for 2028, though not officially confirmed yet. For the latter, Minneapolis is the “clear favorite,” and U.S. Bank Stadium is proposed as the central anchor, as per NBC Sports.

The Bengals were initially trying for the next season. But they decided to wait due to the construction of the new 700-room Marriott headquarters hotel located next to the Duke Energy Convention Center late 2025 and is expected to be completed in 2028.

Hosting the NFL Draft requires the city to accommodate crowds of hundreds of thousands, alongside logistical considerations including weather, security, and broadcasting.

One of the preferred venues in Cincinnati is The Banks, between the Bengals’ Paycor Stadium and the Reds’ Great American Ball Park. Another option is the monumental Cincinnati Union Terminal, according to Sports Illustrated.

The city leadership is also actively supporting this event. Mayor Aftab Pureval has expressed faith in the city’s preparedness, highlighting several ongoing developments, as per reports from The Cincinnati Enquirer.

How is a City Chosen to Host NFL Drafts?

A yearly bidding process determines NFL Draft host cities. The cities that want to host the draft make their proposals to the NFL.

Usually, these proposals contain information about how the city will host the draft, including venues, accommodation facilities, transportation, and other relevant information.

In many instances, the bid is made jointly by the NFL team from the host city, tourism and conventions agencies, among others, as per Fox Sports.

The bidding process ends with an evaluation of the bids by the NFL Events Committee. The NFL examines factors such as the ability of the venue to accommodate a major event that will last for several days, the strength of the city infrastructure, and the attractiveness of the venue to fans and the press.

The next step is the selection of host cities, which takes place via a vote of the NFL team owners from the 32 teams.

Based on current reports, the NFL Draft is expected to be hosted by Washington in 2027, Minnesota in 2028, and Cincinnati in 2029, with official confirmation still pending for the latter two.

Apeksha Juneja Revisiting 10 Most-Recent QBs Drafted By Cincinnati Bengals
The Cincinnati Bengals have drafted quarterbacks with very different expectations over the years. Some arrived as franchise-changing picks, while others were brought in as backup plans or long shots. A few became major names, and a few barely lasted long enough for fans to remember them. Ian Johnson/ IMAGO
Scott Covington was taken 245th overall in the seventh round of the 1999 NFL Draft. The Miami quarterback stayed mostly in the background and got very few chances in Cincinnati. He appeared in only three games, making him one of the easier Bengals draft picks to forget. Image via Fanatics Collect
The Bengals picked Heisman-winning quarterback Carson Palmer first overall in 2003, bringing stability. He threw 154 touchdowns in eight seasons and led Cincinnati to a playoff return. His knee injury in the 2005 Wild Card game was feared career-threatening. Newscom World/IMAGO
A small-school quarterback from Wyoming was picked 218th overall in the 2004 NFL Draft as a late-round gamble. Casey Bramlet spent time on Cincinnati’s practice squad and never played a regular-season game. The Bengals moved him on quickly. Oliver Hardt/ Imago
Reggie McNeal was taken 193rd pick overall in the 6th round of the 2006 NFL Draft after starring at Texas A&M. Cincinnati quickly moved him away from quarterback and tried to use his athleticism in other ways. His time with the Bengals was short, and he never became a real answer at the position. A developmental quarterback from Nevada was taken 151st overall in the 2007 NFL Draft. He spent most of his time with the Bengals on the main roster and never appeared in a regular-season game. Cincinnati mainly viewed him as depth behind Carson Palmer, but that plan never really went anywhere. Newscom World/Imago
A second-round pick at No. 35 overall in 2011, the TCU quarterback gave Cincinnati steady play for nearly a decade. He started 133 games, threw 204 touchdown passes, and led the team to five straight playoff trips. Even without a playoff win, he became one of the franchise’s most important quarterbacks. Icon Sportswire/IMAGO
A.J. McCarron was picked 164th overall in the fifth round after winning big at Alabama. He became a trusted backup behind Andy Dalton and nearly helped save Cincinnati’s 2015 season. His playoff appearance against Pittsburgh is still one of the more memorable moments from his Bengals run. ZUMA Press Wire/IMAGO
A late-round quarterback from Toledo was taken 249th overall in the 2018 NFL Draft. He spent most of his short Bengals stint as a depth option and saw very limited action. Cincinnati waived him in 2019, and he later spent time with the Titans and Falcons. Icon Sportswire/IMAGO
Ryan Finley was taken 104th overall in the fourth round of the 2019 NFL Draft out of NC State. He stepped in during the 2019 season and started three games. His numbers stayed modest, and once Joe Burrow arrived, Cincinnati moved on and traded him in 2021. Icon Sportswire/IMAGO
The Bengals used the No. 1 overall pick in 2020 on LSU’s Heisman-winning star after his huge final college season. Joe Burrow quickly changed the franchise’s direction, leading Cincinnati to Super Bowl LVI. He has already become the face of the team and the answer they had been chasing for years. Bengals $12M Rookie Draws Maxx Crosby Comparisons https://www.cincinnatibengalscommunity.com/news/bengals-twelve-million-dollars-rookie-draws-maxx-crosby-comparisons/ Wed, 06 May 2026 12:15:00 +0000 https://www.cincinnatibengalscommunity.com/?p=99749 The Cincinnati Bengals didn’t draft just another edge rusher in the second round. They might have found their own version of one of the NFL’s most relentless pass rushers.

Cashius Howell, who signed a $12 million rookie deal, is already drawing Maxx Crosby comparisons, and it’s not just draft hype.

ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler made the comparison, citing an anonymous AFC scout to make his case.

“But their second-round pick, edge rusher Cashius Howell, possesses one of Maxx Crosby’s best attributes, his motor,” Fowler wrote. Crosby has built his entire reputation on playing every snap at full speed, and the scout sees that same quality in Howell.

“He doesn’t have the elite bend that some of the other rushers have, but he is absolutely relentless and will play a long time in the NFL as a result,” the AFC scout told Fowler.

Howell appeared in 56 games over five seasons of college football, recording 27 sacks and 35.5 tackles for loss. Three of those seasons were at Bowling Green and two at Texas A&M.

In his final season, he had 11.5 sacks and won SEC Defensive Player of the Year, the kind of production you get from someone who doesn’t take possessions off.

After losing Trey Hendrickson to free agency, the Bengals needed a player like Howell. Shemar Stewart’s rookie season, one sack in eight games after a contract holdout, also left the edge rusher room thin.

The national media pushed back on the short arm measurements narrative and the Crosby comparison only added to the buzz around the pick.

Bengals Rookie Cashius Howell is Ready to Make his Mark

Howell’s motor was more than something the Bengals were buying into, his former coach had the specifics to back it up.

The Cincinnati Bengals have seen some serious talent in the backfield over the years. From workhorse runners to explosive playmakers, different players have carried the offense in different eras. These names stand out not just for yards, but for the moments and consistency they brought to the team. Dreamstime/IMAGO
Boobie Clark made an immediate impact in Cincinnati and finished with 2,978 rushing yards for the Bengals. As a rookie in 1973, he rushed for 988 yards and scored eight total touchdowns. Pass-catching ability made him one of Cincinnati’s most useful backs from 2013 to 2020. He rushed for 3,697 yards with the Bengals and added plenty as a receiver out of the backfield. Harold Green gave the Bengals a different kind of threat during his early-1990s run. He finished with 3,727 rushing yards and made the Pro Bowl in 1992 after rushing for 1,170 yards. He was not the biggest name in the backfield, but he gave Cincinnati a reliable runner with real burst. ZUMA Press Wire/IMAGO
After a rough start to his NFL career, he found new life in Cincinnati from 2008 to 2011. He rushed for 4,176 yards with the Bengals and gave the offense a much-needed physical edge. Pete Johnson was one of the Bengals’ early power backs and finished with 5,421 rushing yards. He also became the franchise’s longtime rushing touchdown leader thanks to his bruising goal-line style. Rudi Johnson gave the Bengals a steady power runner after Corey Dillon left. He rushed for 5,742 yards and posted three straight 1,000-yard seasons. His best year came in 2005, when he ran for 1,458 yards and helped keep Cincinnati’s offense balanced during one of its stronger stretches. ZUMA Press Wire/IMAGO
Workhorse mentality defined Joe Mixon’s Cincinnati run. He finished with 6,412 rushing yards for the Bengals and climbed near the top of the franchise list during the Burrow era. His 2021 Pro Bowl season stood out most, with 1,205 rushing yards and 13 touchdowns as Cincinnati made its playoff push. Trask Smith/IMAGO
Versatility made him a dual-threat nightmare for defenses during his 1984-1991 run. Four Pro Bowls highlighted a Bengals career that produced 6,447 rushing yards and 3,012 receiving yards. Corey Dillon was a game-breaker during his Bengals run from 1997 to 2003. He still leads the franchise with 8,061 rushing yards, 1,865 carries, and 45 rushing touchdowns. His huge 2000 season included 1,435 rushing yards, a Pro Bowl selection, and several monster performances that kept Cincinnati’s offense alive. Image of Sport/IMAGO

Bengals.com’s Geoff Hobson spoke with Texas A&M defensive line coach Tony Jerod-Eddie about how Howell’s game will translate to the next level.

“His game and his style of play translates great to the NFL level,” Jerod-Eddie told Hobson. “We ran a pro-style defense, so he’ll be ready to do whatever is asked. He’s serious about his craft. He sits in on meetings, he takes tremendous notes.”

When asked what sets Howell apart from other prospects, Jerod Eddie pointed to something that doesn’t appear in a stat sheet.

“There’s a switch he flips and he becomes highly competitive. Ultra-competitive. He’ll tell you about it a little, too, which I love,” he told Hobson.

Defensive coordinator Al Golden plans to use hybrid roles in multiple formations, providing immediate opportunities to make an impact.

With Shemar Stewart, Myles Murphy, and free-agent addition Boye Mafe forming the EDGE, the Bengals need pass-rushing production. Given his trajectory, Howell looks like he will keep climbing.

Bobby Wagner Fits Bengals’ Post-Draft Linebacker Need https://www.cincinnatibengalscommunity.com/news/bobby-wagner-fits-bengals-post-draft-linebacker-need/ Wed, 06 May 2026 11:00:00 +0000 https://www.cincinnatibengalscommunity.com/?p=98845 With the 2026 NFL Draft in the rearview, the Bengals’ roster built for a Super Bowl is on a run. But the lack of a veteran linebacker remains one of the missing pieces in their defensive puzzle. As the decision keeps the door open, Bobby Wagner’s name is trending.

“After the Commanders selected Sonny Styles in the first round, a return to Washington may not be in the cards for Bobby Wagner, and it’d make sense for the Bengals to pounce,” wrote CBS Sports’ Tyler Sullivan.

Last year, he re-signed with the Commanders. But he entered this season as a free agent. Now that the Commanders signed Leo Chenal to a three-year deal in free agency, the chances of his return to Washington are low.

So, he emerged as a strong post-draft fit for Cincinnati. Signing him could fill the need to lead a young unit through a deep playoff push.

The Bengals now rely on younger players like Demetrius Knight Jr. and Barrett Carter. This enhances the need for Wagner, who can also provide depth and stability at the position.

Cincinnati’s defensive philosophy relies on disciplined gap integrity. Even though Wagner must be 35-years-old, he remains one of the league’s best run-stoppers.

November 14, 2025, Valdebebas, Madrid, Spain: Bobby Wagner during the Washington Commanders training day ahead their National Football League NFL, American Football Herren, USA 2025 Madrid Game against Miami Dolphins at Ciudad Deportiva Real Madrid on November 14, 2025, in Valdebebas, Madrid, Spain. According to Pro Football Focus, Wagner held a strong 78.6 defensive grade in 2025. The stats proved his football IQ and tackling mechanics have not lost a step.

By bringing him into Lou Anarumo’s scheme, Wagner provides the “green dot” leadership. The move would push the team from rebuilding mode into a win-now situation.

“For Wagner, this pairing would make sense not only from a need standpoint, but the linebacker would also give himself a good shot at a deep playoff run with Joe Burrow as his quarterback, giving him possibly one last kick at the can for another Super Bowl title,” Sullivan further wrote.

Even at age 35, Wagner remained highly productive, finishing the 2025 season with 79 solo tackles, 4.5 sacks, and two interceptions for the Washington Commanders.

This move perfectly fits the team’s post-draft salary cap plan. Wagner holds a projected one-year market value of $7.7 million. He could be a low-cost backup plan if the rookie struggles.

How Bobby Wagner’s 2025 Numbers Stack Up Against Other Free-Agent Linebackers

When looking at the remaining pool of veteran linebackers, Wagner’s profile remains an exception. His 162 tackles in 2025 placed him among the league’s top performers, outperforming many other players in total defensive stops.

While Bobby Okereke is still a free agent, his stats are not near Wagner’s. The former New York Giants linebacker came up with 143 total tackles last season.

Thus, Wagner might be sought by other teams as well like the Dallas Cowboys. With Dee Winters, DeMarvion Overshown, and Jaishawn Barham on the roster, Dallas has plenty of speed and athleticism at linebacker.

What’s missing is a vocal leader who can anchor the defense from the middle, a role Wagner has been connected to for years.

Joe Burrow Returns to the Met Gala for Second Straight Year https://www.cincinnatibengalscommunity.com/news/joe-burrow-returns-to-the-met-gala-for-second-straight-year/ Tue, 05 May 2026 11:00:00 +0000 https://www.cincinnatibengalscommunity.com/?p=99039 Joe Burrow is making the best out of his offseason and once again building his presence beyond the field. The Cincinnati Bengals Star took part in one of the fashion industry’s biggest events, the Met Gala.

The quarterback was spotted prior to attending The Metropolitan Museum of Art, posing alongside former LSU teammate and Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Justin Jefferson.

For this year’s “Costume Art” theme, Burrow was spotted leaving The Mark Hotel in a sharply tailored, dark blue designer suit featuring distinctive trim.

May 4th marked the opening of the Costume Institute’s “Costume Art” spring exhibition at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, built around the theme “Fashion is Art.”

This marks Burrow’s second time at the Met Gala, having made his debut in 2025. Last year, Burrow made headlines in a sleek, blue-grey Gucci suit paired with his signature ice-blue sunglasses and matching sneakers.

The 2025 look aligned with the “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style” theme. It earned Burrow a spot on British GQ’s best-dressed list.

On May 2, just a few days before Burrow attended the Met Gala, he went viral for his Kentucky Derby outfit. He attended the event wearing a light pink suit, paired with a grey T-shirt and a maroon-colored fedora.

Beyond the Met Gala, he had made one of his notable steps into the runway modelling debut at Vogue World fashion show in Paris in 2024, where he went viral for a backless suit jacket

This helped Joe Burrow use his personal style to connect with more fans and grow his popularity beyond the AFC North.

The Influence of Family and Identity on Joe Burrow’s Style

Burrow’s connection to fashion dates back before he became a quarterback. It has been shaped largely by his mother’s influence.

“My mom was in fashion when I was little. So I was around it. I was always pretty particular about what I wore, like when we’d be school shopping,” the quarterback said in an interview during a 2025 feature with Sports Illustrated.

He also admitted that he struggled with confidence growing up and often felt uncomfortable with himself. So fashion became a way for him to express his personality without needing to say much. Through colorful clothes and different styles, he found a way to show confidence.

Burrow believes athletes and fashion designers have similarities in the way they work and express themselves.

“We’re both artists in our own ways,” the quarterback said. “Theirs is with clothes, ours is with our bodies. There’s a lot of creativity in what we do.”

Joe Burrow has turned that personal connection into part of his professional brand. He now collaborates with stylists such as Kyle Smith, the NFL’s first fashion editor.

Bengals’ Cap Constraints and Roster Depth Reduce Trade Possibilities https://www.cincinnatibengalscommunity.com/news/bengals-cap-constraints-and-roster-depth-reduce-trade-possibilities/ Tue, 05 May 2026 04:09:53 +0000 https://www.cincinnatibengalscommunity.com/?p=97125 The Cincinnati Bengals are facing a tight budget this year. After making some huge moves to improve the team, they are now near the bottom of the league in free cap space. Right now, as per reports, they only have about $7.4 million left to spend.

The team spent a lot of money this year to make their defense better, including two major moves to strengthen the team. First, they traded for Dexter Lawrence for a No.10 spot in the 2026 draft. Second, they signed edge rusher Boye Mafe to a 3-year, $60 million contract. These moves were expensive, but they have made the team’s defense much stronger than it was before.

Even though some experts think the Bengals should try to get another star like Kayvon Thibodeaux from the Giants, that probably won’t happen.

The team already has many talented players on their defensive line. Adding another expensive player doesn’t fit their budget or their current plan for the season.

Credits: IMAGO

Instead, the Bengals want to give their young players a chance to play and show how good they are. They have two high draft picks, Myles Murphy and Shemar Stewart, who are ready to be leaders on the field. They also just added Cashius Howell, a player they believe will be a star in the future.

The Bengals seem very happy with the players they have now and feel they have enough talent to win games. Unless a player gets hurt during summer practice, the team is likely finished making big moves for the year.

The Bengals Choose Financial Flexibility Over Fixed Commitment

As per Bengals Wire, the Cincinnati Bengals have decided not to pick up the fifth-year option for defensive end Myles Murphy. This move means the team is passing on a guaranteed $14.5 million salary for the 2027 season.

While Murphy was a first-round pick in 2023, the team wants to see more consistency before committing big money. Murphy has shown flashes of great talent. Last season, he finished strong and proved he could be a difficult matchup for opposing teams. However, his total stats are still a bit low (8.5 sacks in 47 games)

Another player who saw changes made to his contract was Cody Ford. As per reports from AtoZ Sports, Cody’s salary dropped from $2.9 million to $1.3 million. This move allowed the team to save about 1.6 million in cap space.

Though there were talks that the Bengals could have easily made adjustments by restructuring Joe Burrow’s, Ja’Marr Chase’s, and Tee Higgins contracts, the team decided to go for players who still had to prove themselves.

The Bengals are currently prioritizing long-term financial health over splashy trades. By maintaining cap flexibility and trusting their deep defensive rotation, they are hoping to push to a championship run without compromising future stability.

Do you think their defensive lineup is strong for the upcoming season?
